People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo expressed support for former Emergency Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon's opinion on pushing for a special prosecution on Chae Sang-byeong (Chae Hae-byeong). Regarding some views labeling Han as anti-Yoon (anti-Yoon Seok-yeol), Ahn emphasized, "It is a position that issues that need to be addressed for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol government must be resolved."
On the 25th, on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' Ahn said, "The core values of conservatism are security and national defense," aligning with former Chairman Han's views. Since the 21st National Assembly, Ahn has shown support for the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecution. He stated, "It is an unfortunate incident where a young person lost his life while serving the country at a prime age," adding, "I believe it is the duty of the state to uncover the truth and provide proper honors."
Ahn stressed that even if there is no agreement between the ruling and opposition parties, the People Power Party should openly declare its stance on the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecution. He said, "If this is not resolved, the Democratic Party will continue to use it as an issue," and "the government will fall into a more difficult situation, and this problem will not end."
Some argue that former Chairman Han's support for the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecution indicates an anti-Yoon stance. In response, Ahn said, "I am not sure if (former Chairman Han) has an anti-Yoon image."
Ahead of the People Power Party's July 23 party convention, Ahn outlined, "The role of the party leader is mainly twofold," specifying, "to reflect on, innovate, and rebuild the party after this defeat and to win the local elections." Regarding the possibility of unification among the four candidates running in the party convention, he said, "Since each has clear goals, (the possibility of unification) is unlikely."
Meanwhile, Ahn posted on Facebook the day before, stating, "If you are a candidate for party leader, you should at least clarify your position on four issues." The four issues Ahn mentioned are ▲ reflection and reform plans for the party ▲ constructive party-government relations ▲ visions on pension reform and future industries ▲ the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecution and the medical crisis.
