The signing ceremony held on the 24th at the conference room of the Dangjin City Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Corporation in Dangjin, Chungnam, was attended by key officials including Heo Chi-hong, Head of GS Retail MD Headquarters, and Oh Seong-hwan, Mayor of Dangjin. This agreement was conducted as a four-party agreement involving GS Retail, Dangjin City, Dangjin City Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Corporation, and Nonghyup Distribution Daejeon Sejong Chungnam Branch.

The business agreement includes ▲ the use of Dangjin rice as raw material for fresh food (FF) such as lunch boxes, gimbap, and rice balls ▲ compliance with GS Retail quality standards and implementation of quality management manuals to ensure stable supply of high-quality Dangjin rice ▲ adherence to a swift and accurate distribution system.

GS Retail plans to enhance the quality and supply stability of rice used in convenience store GS25 and corporate supermarket (SSM) GS The Fresh, while securing competitive pricing through concentrated purchasing volume, and accelerating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management practices to promote the development of farmers and the local economy.

Through this agreement, GS Retail plans to import more than 8,000 tons annually of Dangjin rice as raw material for fresh food sold at GS25, such as lunch boxes and gimbap. Dangjin rice is recognized for its high quality, having won the Brand Grand Prize at the "Korea Rice Festa" and being selected as the "Representative Brand of Paldo Nonghyup Rice" for three consecutive years since 2021.

GS Retail expects a virtuous cycle to occur through the release of products using Dangjin rice, realizing customer satisfaction and increasing rice purchases. They will continue various collaborations such as selling Dangjin rice grains and developing new products using Dangjin rice.

Hong Sung-joon, Head of GS Retail’s Ready Meal Division, said, "We have signed a business agreement with Dangjin City to utilize Dangjin rice, which is renowned for its excellent quality, to realize customer satisfaction and contribute to the development of local farmers and the economy. We will continue to strengthen cooperation with local governments to secure excellent agricultural products and contribute to the growth of farmers and the local economy."

Meanwhile, GS Retail signed a business agreement with Chungcheongnam-do last November to expand the distribution of local agricultural products and strengthen cooperation. The collaboration with Dangjin City is also part of last year’s business agreement.
