The First Local Government Mid-Aged Legal Internship Employment Support Project
Internship and Employment Connection with Partner Institutions Including Law Firms
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will recruit and operate the specialized mid-career internship project “Seoripul Legal Supporters,” which helps the middle-aged generation with reemployment, starting in July.
“Seoripul Legal Supporters” is an educational program that trains legal clerks. It is the first mid-career legal clerk internship employment support project initiated by a local government nationwide last year. This year, the project will be expanded to recruit 20 trainees annually, once in the first half and once in the second half of the year.
Seocho-gu is home to a legal district densely populated with courts, prosecutors’ offices, and law firms, creating high demand for legal clerks. There has also been a demand for support projects from the district to help the middle-aged generation leverage their experience and expertise for reemployment.
“Seoripul Legal Supporters” is promoted by the Seocho 50 Plus Center, a support institution for the middle-aged in Seocho-gu, and recruits Seocho-gu residents under the age of 58. The curriculum includes basic legal knowledge such as an overview of civil litigation and litigation procedures, as well as practical training in electronic litigation and document drafting. Lectures are conducted by S&L Law Firm Human Resources Academy, a legal education institution, with Attorney Hyun Ji-won from Gangnam Law Firm serving as the instructor, ensuring a professional educational process.
Last year, 14 middle-aged students participated in the legal clerk training program. Among them, 12 were accepted for internships at law firms, and ultimately 4 succeeded in gaining employment.
In the first half of this year, 10 outstanding participants were selected from 17 trainees, and they have been working as interns at partner institutions since May. The nine partner institutions that signed business agreements with the district are IBS Law Office, Lee & Seung Law Office, Dowon Law Office, Dowon Labor Corporation, Seungpyeong Law Corporation, Seoul Central Law Corporation, Sein Judicial Scrivener Office, Anam Judicial Scrivener Office, and Judicial Scrivener Jeong Myeong-jo Office.
“Seoripul Legal Supporters” is part of efforts to actively develop legal culture programs around the legal district area. In March, the district designated the area including the Seocho Station legal district as the “Judicial Justice Hub” street. In cooperation with the Supreme Court, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, the Bar Association, and others, the district is preparing friendly programs that allow people to embrace law as culture, such as judicial field trips, legal education, and exhibitions.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “We will continue to expand Seocho-gu’s specialized employment support programs so that the middle-aged generation can develop their careers by utilizing their expertise and experience even after retirement.”
