Kim Dong-yeon on Hwaseong Plant Fire: "All Promotions Including 2nd Anniversary Suspended" Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon’s post and photos related to the Hwaseong fire, uploaded on his social media on the 24th

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon decided on the 24th to suspend all promotional activities related to his upcoming 2nd anniversary in office due to the fire at a primary battery factory in Jeongok Marine Industrial Complex, Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province.

Governor Kim wrote on his social media (SNS) that "a large fire broke out at the primary battery factory in Jeongok Marine Industrial Complex, Hwaseong," and added, "As soon as I heard the news, I rushed to the scene and was the first to arrive, but it was devastating."

He continued, "While inspecting the collapsed debris, I did not even realize that a nail had pierced the sole of my shoe," and said, "I instructed that no separate briefing for the governor be prepared, and at the site, I ordered the full mobilization of available resources for rapid fire suppression, prioritizing rescue efforts, and ensuring the safety of firefighters."

He also stated, "After confirming that the firefighters had safely entered the site, I had a late lunch on the way back to the provincial office," and added, "It was heartbreaking that I could still eat in such a situation. I pray for the souls of the victims."

Furthermore, he said, "Gyeonggi Province will do its best in handling the aftermath and cleanup," and added, "All promotional activities related to the governor's 2nd anniversary scheduled for this week have been completely suspended."

Meanwhile, at around 10:31 a.m. on the same day, a fire broke out at Arisell, a primary battery manufacturer located in Jeongok Industrial Complex, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong City. As of 4 p.m., the fire authorities reported that a total of 15 bodies had been recovered from Building 3 of the Arisell factory.

A fire official stated, "The bodies were found scattered in various places on the second floor, not in one location," and added, "Rescue teams are still recovering bodies at the scene."

The victims found inside the building were discovered as charred remains, unlike a man in his 60s who was previously rescued in cardiac arrest but later died. Authorities estimate that the death toll may exceed 20.
