Kang Seon-woo, a member of the National Assembly representing Gangseo-gu Gap in Seoul for the Democratic Party of Korea, announced her candidacy for the party’s Supreme Council election. She explained her reasons for running, emphasizing Lee Jae-myung’s reappointment as party leader and the recapturing of power.

On the morning of the 24th, at the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, Kang stated, "I declare my candidacy for the Democratic Party Supreme Council with the determination to open an era of party member sovereignty" and emphasized, "I will become a Supreme Council member who upholds the orders of the party members." Furthermore, she said, "I will show what true responsible politics is," adding, "I will create a Democratic Party where the thoughts of party members become the party’s decisions." She also mentioned, "I am an online party member," and explained, "I frequented the Democratic Party website daily, waiting for the announcement of proportional representation applications before deciding to run."

She explained, "It is not ‘Eodaemyeong’ but ‘Dangdaemyeong’," meaning "The leader is not just Lee Jae-myung personally, but naturally, the leader should be Lee Jae-myung." She continued, "Leader Lee did not regard the party leadership as power and repaid us with a landslide victory in the general election," adding, "Yet, in this party convention, when he runs for reappointment, they call it dictatorship and point fingers at him." Then, "I will fight against the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s tyranny and incompetence with a stronger, clearer, and more definite Lee Jae-myung’s Democratic Party," pledging, "I will be infinitely humble before the people but become a fierce warrior against the ruthless Yoon Seok-yeol administration."

Kang also expressed her determination to create a new administration. She said, "Kang Seon-woo will open the era of President Lee Jae-myung. Let us walk the path of recapturing power together with Leader Lee Jae-myung and Supreme Council member Kang Seon-woo." She promised, "I will build a Republic of Korea where a boy laborer becomes president," and added, "I will change our society based on the turbulent life of Lee Jae-myung, who was poor, hungry, lonely, and thus deeply wounded." Furthermore, she said, "When those who understand the people’s suffering stand by the people, we can change the lives of our citizens."

After declaring her candidacy, Kang told reporters, "Leader Lee gave me words of encouragement, saying he believes I will do well." Regarding the 'top priority task for the next leadership,' she said, "It is for the Democratic Party to take care of people’s livelihoods and to resolve various suspicions related to Yoon Seok-yeol’s prosecutorial dictatorship."
