Cheonan-si Selected for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Hub-type Smart City' Contest

Investment of 38 Billion Won by 2026

Cheonan-si Selected for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Hub-type Smart City' Contest Cheonan City, Chungnam Province, has been finally selected for the 2024 Hub-type Smart City Development Contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Cheonan City in Chungnam announced that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2024 Hub-type Smart City Development Contest.


The smart city will be developed around the Cheonan Station area innovation district, linked with the Smart Green Industrial Complex and Campus Innovation Park, with a total investment of 38 billion KRW by 2026, including 16 billion KRW in national funds, 16 billion KRW in local funds, and 6 billion KRW in private investment.


The city aims to create an urban tech-based smart hub city combining corporate support functions and smart spatial structures under the vision of "Inclusive and Dynamic Future Innovation Smart Hub City, Prism City Cheonan."


To this end, it has formed a consortium with global companies such as Amazon Web Services from the U.S. and Dassault Syst?mes from France, as well as private companies like CJ OliveNetworks and SK Planet, and local universities including Dankook University.


The consortium plans to establish a virtuous cycle model of the smart city through △ the creation of an Innovation Center for fostering future innovative industries, companies, and talent △ development of Cheonan-type GPT, a generative AI based on data for citizen convenience and policy/administration use △ support for smart technology demonstration through the construction of Virtual Cheonan City (Virtual Station) △ establishment of an Urban Tech Zone as a demonstration space for products and technologies of startups and SMEs based in Cheonan.


Mayor Park Sang-don said, "We have secured excellent personnel from 12 universities and the Korea Automotive Technology Institute and built infrastructure where 500 startups will settle in the future, meeting the requirements as a smart hub city," adding, "We will become a national representative smart city going forward."
