Child Walking with Mother 'Random Assault'
Citizen Witnessing Assault Delivers Furious Kick
A woman who randomly assaulted a child holding her mother's hand while walking in Brazil was subdued by citizens.
Recently, foreign media including the Daily Mail reported on February 17 about a woman who slapped the face of a girl walking with her mother on a street in Brazil.
The video shows a woman wearing pink clothes reaching out her hand toward a girl walking from the opposite direction on the street.
The woman then swings her hand and hits the child's face. The impact was strong enough to tilt the child's head backward.
The child's mother protested to the woman, and the child tried to stop her mother. The offending woman threatened them again by swinging her hand at the protesting mother and daughter.
The offending woman was immediately punished by a citizen who appeared on the scene. A bystander who witnessed the assault ran over, kicked the woman to the ground, and started hitting her.
The mother hugged her child and checked on her condition. Shortly after, other citizens joined the scene to check on the injured child, and the woman who was beaten by the citizen got up and left.
The reason for the assault has not been revealed, and it is presumed that the offender and the victim did not know each other.
As the video became an issue online, netizens generally responded positively to the man's actions who stood up for the mother and daughter. Comments included "It was appropriate," "The offending woman got what she deserved," and "It was not enough."
Meanwhile, random street assaults are a social problem occurring not only in South America but also in various places overseas. The New York Times reported on the 31st of last month that at least 50 female victims were randomly assaulted on the streets of Lower Manhattan from early this year until April.
Random assaults have mainly become known after some victims posted videos on social media showing their bruised faces and testimonies following the attacks.
