In December of last year, the Seungil Hope Foundation held a groundbreaking ceremony for the country's first Lou Gehrig's disease care hospital in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The hospital will have a total floor area of 4,995㎡, with two basement levels and four above-ground floors, featuring 76 beds, rehabilitation facilities, and an auditorium.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Seungil Hope Foundation co-CEOs Park Seung-il and Sean, as well as Lee Sang-il, the mayor of Yongin. Also present were Neople CEO Yoon Myung-jin, who donated 2 billion KRW for the construction, and Lee Won-man, the general director.

The Seungil Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization co-led by Park Seung-il, a former professional basketball coach for Ulsan Mobis who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in 2002 and is currently battling the illness, and singer Sean.

Sean said, "I met Seungil 14 years ago and dreamed together, and we have been running without stopping for 14 years. Many people have shared their hearts, and numerous fellow entertainers and citizens have supported us by taking on the Ice Bucket Challenge."

Sean led the Ice Bucket Challenge in Korea, drawing significant attention, and has participated in events such as the 2023 Chuncheon Marathon, the 2023 Miracle365 Ice Bucket Challenge Run, and the Tongyeong Triathlon to raise funds for the hospital. It is reported that he has donated more than 550 million KRW to date.

Lou Gehrig's disease is a rare illness with an unknown exact cause, resulting from partial destruction of the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The disease causes symptoms such as muscle weakness, muscle atrophy, speech difficulties, weight loss, and limb paralysis, and ultimately has a high risk of death due to respiratory failure.
