Gyeongnam Province Recruiting Torchbearers for National Sports Festival and National Para Games

Gyeongsangnam-do is recruiting 614 torchbearers for the 105th National Sports Festival and the 44th National Para Games, which will be held in Gimhae this October.


On the 21st, the province announced that it will select distinctive representatives from various walks of life and regions to carry on the spirit of friendship and harmony of the Games and to create a festive atmosphere that unites all residents.


This year’s torch will be lit at four locations: Jeseungdang in Tongyeong and Chogye Grand Park in Hapcheon in September, and Manisan in Ganghwado and Gujibong in Gimhae in October.


The flame will travel through all 18 cities and counties in the province via the torchbearers, and on the opening day of the National Sports Festival and National Para Games, it will tour the main host city, Gimhae, before finally lighting the main stadium, Gimhae Sports Complex.


The torch relay teams will consist of 10 people each: 2 main runners, 2 sub runners, and 6 escort runners. From October 7 to 10, they will carry the torch and flags along 105 sections over four days.

Anyone aged 15 or older residing in the province can participate in the torch relay.


Applications can be downloaded from the websites of Gyeongsangnam-do, the 105th National Sports Festival, the 44th National Para Games, or each city and county until the 28th. After filling out the application, it can be submitted in person to the city or county sports department, or sent by mail or email.


Participants will be provided with a torchbearer uniform and a small activity allowance.


The recruitment period for torchbearers is from the 21st to the 28th of this month.


Lee Jeongkon, Director of Culture and Sports, said, "Through the torch relay, we will do our best to promote the attractions of Gyeongsangnam-do nationwide and connect various local cultures and industries so that this event becomes a cultural festival."
