Assemblyman Moon Jin-seok Proposes 'Raising of the Rising Sun Flag Ban Act'

Prohibition of Flying Foreign Flags by Presidential Decree...Local Government Heads Ordered to Remove Violations

Assemblyman Moon Jin-seok Proposes 'Raising of the Rising Sun Flag Ban Act' On the 20th, Moon Jin-seok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Cheonan City Gap, announced that he has taken the lead in proposing the "Rising Sun Flag Display Prohibition Act," which bans the display of the Rising Sun Flag on national holidays.

Moon Jin-seok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Cheonan City Gap), announced on the 20th that he has taken the lead in proposing the "Prohibition of Rising Sun Flag Display Act," which bans the display of the Rising Sun Flag on national holidays.

This bill was promoted to address a loophole in the current law, which does not have separate provisions to prohibit or remove the Rising Sun Flag, despite recent controversies caused by cases of displaying the Rising Sun Flag on Memorial Day.

Representative Moon proposed an amendment to prohibit the display of foreign flags, including the Rising Sun Flag, as determined by presidential decree, on national holidays.

In case of violation, the bill allows local government heads to order the removal of the foreign flag, and if the order is not followed, authorized officials can remove the foreign flag. It also includes provisions to impose a fine of up to 10 million won for non-compliance with the removal order.

Moon Jin-seok said, "The Rising Sun Flag is a symbol of Japanese imperialism, and displaying it on national holidays causes significant social harm," adding, "I hope the amendment will be passed promptly to prevent further controversies."
