Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, visited Mangwonjeong in the afternoon of the 19th, where the '2024 Mapo Huiujeong Festival' was held.
The name 'Huiujeong' in the 'Huiujeong Festival' is another name for Mangwonjeong. During a severe drought, when King Sejong the Great visited this place, rain fortunately fell, and to commemorate this, it was named 'the pavilion where joyful rain was met.'
Hosted by the Mapo Cultural Center, this event was attended by about 150 people including traditional Korean musicians, Mapo elders, and local residents. It began with a traditional pungmul performance praying for the village's well-being, followed by a reenactment of the Huiuje ritual, a rain prayer ceremony wishing for abundance and rain, and then a Korean traditional music performance.
Additionally, side events included traditional rice cake pounding, experiences with traditional three-colored snacks and dasik, and a program for writing good phrases.
At the opening ceremony, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, said, “Like Huiujeong, which embodies a heart that cares for the people, Mapo District will do its best in administration with the belief that nothing is more important than the happiness of its residents.”
