US CESMII and MAGNET Join Hands for Global Manufacturing Data Sharing
Kyungnam University has joined hands with CESMII and MAGNET, leading U.S. organizations specializing in smart manufacturing technology and manufacturing innovation, to drive the digital transformation of the Changwon National Industrial Complex.
For the first time among domestic universities, Kyungnam University has agreed to pursue a joint project with CESMII to establish a global manufacturing data sharing system. With MAGNET, the university will receive operational know-how and promote joint programs such as human resource exchanges and field training in the future. Through these collaborations, Kyungnam University has secured the momentum necessary to enhance the global competitiveness of Gyeongsangnam-do's manufacturing industry and to be officially designated as part of the Glocal University 30 initiative.
On the 18th, Yu Namhyun, Deputy Director of the Global Joint Research Center for Hyper-scale Manufacturing AI, held a technical meeting at MAGNET in Cleveland, USA, with John Dyck, CEO of CESMII, Jonathan Wise, Vice President of Technology, and Professor Lim Chaeseong of Konkuk University, who serves as Chair of the Korea Industry 4.0 Association's Digital Twin Working Group.
The meeting focused on establishing a global cooperative relationship to ensure interoperability between the "Smart Manufacturing Profile (SMP)" technology led by the United States and the "AAS-based Dataspace" technology led by Germany. Both technologies aim to accelerate the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry.
Kyungnam University was invited to participate in the meeting in recognition of its capabilities in securing core technology for manufacturing data sharing systems using Germany's AAS since 2020.
At the meeting, Deputy Director Yu introduced the "Global Manufacturing Convergence Software Development and Demonstration Project" and the "Hyper-scale Manufacturing AI Service Development and Demonstration Project Specialized for the Manufacturing Industry," both of which are being promoted by Gyeongsangnam-do in collaboration with Kyungnam University and Gyeongnam Technopark.
CESMII and MAGNET expressed strong interest in the "AAS-based Knowledge Graph Technology Specialized for Manufacturing," which is being developed through the Hyper-scale Manufacturing AI Service Development and Demonstration Project, and agreed to build a foundation for mutual cooperation in related technologies.
In addition, recognizing that MAGNET's operational strategy closely aligns with Kyungnam University's Glocal University 30 initiative core strategy of "fostering start-ups," the institutions agreed to collaborate on developing programs for sharing operational know-how and exchanging human and material resources. Cooperation with the Korea Industry 4.0 Association will also be strengthened.
Hong Junghyo, Vice President and Chair of the National Project Promotion Committee, stated, "Kyungnam University has recently been strengthening cooperation with world-renowned institutions such as Germany's IDTA and the U.S. DTC. This is the result of leading the development of manufacturing data sharing system technology and steadily preparing for the establishment of a global cooperation system over the past five years."
He added, "The university's acquisition of global competitiveness is very encouraging for its official designation as a Glocal University in the future. We plan to transfer the global cooperation network established by the university to local companies and actively support their entry into global markets."
