The Korea Battery Industry Association announced on the 19th (local time) that it held 'InterBattery Europe 2024' at the Munich Exhibition and Convention Center in Germany, in collaboration with COEX and KOTRA.
At the opening ceremony, key figures from local diplomatic missions, local governments, public institutions, and participating companies attended, including Go Kyung-seok, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Frankfurt; Sung Hwan-doo, Executive Vice President of LG Energy Solution; Jo Yong-hwi, Vice President of Samsung SDI; and Kim Yeon-seop, CEO of Lotte Energy Materials.
Park Tae-sung, Vice Chairman of the Battery Association, stated, "The Korean battery industry possesses world-class technology, manufacturing, and ESG management capabilities, making it a reliable and responsible optimal partner for the European battery industry." He added, "We hope this event will serve as an opportunity for Korea and Europe to collaborate on automotive electrification, carbon neutrality, and energy transition."
Following the opening ceremony, the conference featured major Korean battery companies such as LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and POSCO, alongside European companies and research institutions including BMW, Umicore, Webasto, and Fraunhofer. They discussed Korea-EU battery technology cooperation plans in next-generation batteries, battery manufacturing, logistics, smart factories, and recycling sectors. This year’s second 'InterBattery Europe' saw participation from a total of 78 companies, approximately 10% more than the previous year.
Additionally, as EU battery regulations and policies to establish regional supply chains accelerate, related organizations such as the Korea Eximbank (investment specialized financial institution), SNE Research (battery research institute), Gyeongsangbuk-do, Pohang City, and Gumi City (local governments) participated in the exhibition, attracting significant attention.
