Namdong-gu, Incheon announced on the 19th that the 'Postpartum Care Cost Support Project,' implemented to reduce the economic burden on vulnerable childbirth families, is showing positive results.
According to the district, the postpartum care cost support is a campaign pledge of the 8th-term district mayor and was first implemented in the Incheon area in May last year, providing a total of over 300 million won to 211 vulnerable groups over the course of about a year.
This initiative has played a significant role in alleviating the economic burden of childbirth families facing financial difficulties and addressing blind spots in postpartum care, thereby supporting the health of mothers and babies.
The support targets vulnerable mothers such as basic livelihood security recipients and lower-income groups who have been registered residents of Namdong-gu for at least six months prior to the newborn's birth date. Mothers who are not part of vulnerable groups but have given birth to multiples or a third child or more are also eligible for the same support.
If the postpartum care center is used for more than 7 days, a maximum of 1.5 million won is supported if applied for within 60 days after discharge from the center. Applications for postpartum care cost support can be made by visiting the Namdong-gu Public Health Center.
Park Jong-hyo, the district mayor, said, "We will continue to strengthen the postpartum care cost project to reduce the economic burden on vulnerable childbirth families, create a favorable environment for having and raising children, and promote the health of pregnant women and infants while overcoming low birth rates."
Meanwhile, Namdong-gu is promoting various maternal and child health projects such as postpartum care cost support, maternal and newborn health management support, prenatal health classes, emotional art prenatal education classes, and breastfeeding love classes to ensure happy pregnancies and healthy childbirths.
