From the 20th, Any Foreigner Can Register a Mobile App-Only Prepaid Card and Use Busan Pay
Dedicated Foreign Language Call Center (English, Japanese, Chinese) and 1:1 Inquiry Feature in the Mobile App Also Available
On the 20th, Busan City will launch 'BUSAN Pay,' the nation's first local currency service exclusively for foreigners.
Busan Pay
'BUSAN Pay' is a service that provides foreigners with a variety of essential features through a single mobile app and prepaid card, including Dongbaekjeon payment and cashback benefits, public transportation use, multilingual menu guidance, tourism information, and the purchase and use of the Visit Busan Pass.
Any foreigner can use 'BUSAN Pay' by registering the exclusive prepaid card in the mobile app.
The mobile app can be downloaded by searching for 'BUSAN Pay' on the Play Store and App Store, and the prepaid card can be issued at kiosks in Gimhae Airport and Busan Station, as well as major tourist information centers in the city.
Key features include the Dongbaekjeon payment function, which allows users to top up via international credit cards and make payments using either the card or QR code. The Dongbaekjeon cashback benefits are the same as those for Korean nationals.
Additionally, for the convenience of foreign tourists, payments can be made not only at existing Dongbaekjeon merchants but also at certain large shopping malls such as department stores and duty-free shops. However, cashback benefits are not provided in these cases.
Detailed information on where to use the service can be checked via the BUSAN Pay app.
For tourism features, the mobile app and dedicated website provide tourism information in multiple languages (English, Japanese, Chinese), and promotional leaflets and banners will also be available in multiple languages.
Furthermore, the app offers tourism content such as major attractions, popular restaurants, and travel guides, and foreign tourists can purchase and use the popular mobile Visit Busan Pass through the BUSAN Pay app.
The multilingual menu guidance service will also be gradually linked to BUSAN Pay starting in the second half of this year.
For transportation, users can purchase and use Busan Metro mobile QR passes (1-day and 3-day passes).
The BUSAN Pay card, which includes transportation card functions for buses and taxis, can be issued at designated Busan Bank branches.
Additionally, a dedicated foreign language call center for BUSAN Pay (English, Japanese, Chinese) and a one-on-one inquiry function within the mobile app will ensure smooth customer service.
More detailed information about BUSAN Pay can be found on the BUSAN Pay website.
Shin Changho, Director of the Digital Economy Innovation Office, stated, "'BUSAN Pay' is expected to contribute to the development of Busan's tourism industry by providing a one-stop service with various convenient features for foreign tourists, not just the Dongbaekjeon function," and added, "The city will continue to develop BUSAN Pay so that it can become a tourism platform that visitors from around the world can use conveniently without language barriers, going beyond economic support for local residents and small business owners."
