June 14th: 10-Session Program for People with Brain Lesions and Physical Disabilities
High Satisfaction Achieved with Diverse Activities from Stretching to Traditional Korean Medicine Treatments
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) held the first semester graduation ceremony of the ‘Rehabilitation School for the Disabled’ on the 14th.
The ‘Rehabilitation School for the Disabled’ is a rehabilitation program aimed at improving the health and rehabilitation motivation of people with disabilities, targeting those with brain lesions and physical disabilities. The first semester program, held from May 10 to June 14 at the 4th floor health education room of Dongdaemun-gu Public Health Center, was conducted a total of 10 times every Wednesday and Friday.
During the first period rehabilitation exercise session, participants learned with a physical therapist ▲stretching to prevent joint contracture ▲lower body strength training to prevent falls ▲full-body strength exercises using TheraBand, and the second period included various programs such as ▲bone density testing ▲chronic disease management education ▲assistive device usage training ▲walking in the park ▲Oriental medicine treatment and acupuncture with an Oriental medicine doctor.
This graduation ceremony was held to commemorate the participants’ efforts and achievements so far and to encourage future challenges. Graduates wore graduation caps and received diplomas, sharing the results achieved through the rehabilitation process and exchanging warm encouragement and congratulations with each other. The representative of the graduates said, “The exercises and various education learned at the rehabilitation school were very helpful for health management. I will continue exercising at home and live healthily,” and expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to my peers and teachers, I was able to have a meaningful and enjoyable time.”
A district official stated, “The education site was always lively as participants could enjoy rehabilitation exercises while interacting with others,” and added, “We will prepare even more substantial programs so that more people with disabilities can receive help in managing their health.”
