Movement Control and Temporary Suspension Orders Issued in Daegu and Gyeongbuk
Yeongcheon City, North Gyeongsang Province, held an emergency response meeting at the Agricultural Technology Center on the 15th, presided over by the mayor of Yeongcheon, after African Swine Fever (ASF) was confirmed at a pig farm in Geumho-ri, Hwanam-myeon. The city established the African Swine Fever Crisis Response Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
On the 15th, Ki Moon Choi, Mayor of Yeongcheon, presided over an emergency countermeasure meeting at the Agricultural Technology Center Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
Upon receiving a report of suspected ASF at a pig farm in Hwanam-myeon, the city immediately imposed movement restrictions on the affected farm and requested the initial quarantine team from the Livestock Hygiene and Quarantine Support Headquarters to be dispatched.
After the detailed inspection confirmed a positive result, a movement control and temporary standstill order was issued for the entire Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province from 10:00 p.m. on the 15th.
Simultaneously with the culling of all pigs at the affected farm, detailed inspections were requested for five pig farms and four contract farms within a 10 km quarantine zone.
Furthermore, three movement control checkpoints were set up and operated on nearby roads to restrict the entry and exit of livestock vehicles and to carry out disinfection and quarantine measures. Capture operations are also being conducted within 10 km of the affected farm to prevent the spread through wild boars.
To prevent livestock infectious diseases, the Livestock Division has been operating a quarantine countermeasures situation room and running a base disinfection facility (Yeongcheon Electronic Auction Livestock Market) 24 hours a day for vehicle disinfection.
In addition, seven joint disinfection teams are being mobilized to provide regular disinfection support to small-scale and pig farms vulnerable to quarantine, and in the future, dedicated public officials for pig farms will strengthen monitoring, supplement quarantine facilities, and conduct inspections at livestock farms.
Mayor Choi Kimoon stated, "Our city will do its utmost to prevent further spread through prompt and thorough implementation of livestock quarantine measures."
African Swine Fever is not a zoonotic disease, so it does not cause illness in humans, and pork from infected pigs is not distributed in the market, so it is safe to consume.
