On the 17th, China launched an anti-dumping investigation into pork and pork by-products from the European Union (EU). This is interpreted as a retaliatory measure against the EU's temporary imposition of heavy tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
China's Ministry of Commerce announced on its website that "On June 6, the China Animal Husbandry Association, representing the domestic pork and pork by-products industry, formally submitted an anti-dumping investigation request. We have decided to conduct an anti-dumping investigation on imported pork and pork by-products originating from the EU starting from the 17th."
The Ministry of Commerce added that although the investigation began on this day and is scheduled to end on June 17, 2025, it can be extended by six months under special circumstances.
Earlier, on the 12th (local time), the EU announced a 'tariff bomb' of up to 48% on Chinese electric vehicles. In response, Chinese state media mentioned the possibility of trade protection investigations targeting EU dairy products, pork, and automobiles as a 'retaliatory measure' by the Chinese government.
