Accelerating the Great Transformation of Uljin Agriculture... Joint Farming Complex Hosts Crop Harvesting and Sowing Demonstration

Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province held a demonstration event for the harvest and sowing of crops at the joint farming double-cropping production complex in Namsandeul, Jiksan-ri, Pyeonghae-eup, on the 14th.

Uljin County (County Governor Son Byungbok) held an annual meeting for crop harvesting and sowing.

Approximately 100 people, including county officials and local farmers, attended the event, where they demonstrated the harvest of winter crops such as wheat and the sowing of summer crops like soybeans and powder rice. The event provided an opportunity to explore ways to improve income and efficiency through mechanized joint farming double-cropping compared to traditional single-cropping.

The joint farming complex in Pyeonghae-eup, established as a pilot site for agricultural transformation, is operated by the agricultural corporation Happy Rural Making Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Myungchang). After harvesting rice last fall from fields previously used only for single-cropping rice (about 140 hectares), winter crops (forage and wheat) were sown and harvested this year. Immediately after, summer crops (soybeans and powder rice) were sown and are scheduled to be harvested this fall.

In particular, among the harvested winter crops, forage is sold to local livestock farms, and fermented compost produced by these farms is applied to the pilot complex, promoting low-carbon agriculture by reducing chemical fertilizer use. All wheat is planned to be sold through contract cultivation, while all summer crops (soybeans and powder rice) will be purchased by the government.

County Governor Son Byungbok said, "The core of Uljin's agricultural transformation is to increase production and income by scaling up double-cropping, which is difficult for individual farms, through mechanized joint farming. Based on management analysis, we will work to expand this agricultural transformation throughout Uljin County so that not only farmers but all residents can be happier."
