Gwangju Physical Education Middle School Wins Overall Championship at Jeju Haenyeo National Fin Swimming Competition

Won 3 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze Medals

Students from Gwangju Physical Education Middle School won the overall championship by securing 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals at the ‘3rd Jeju Haenyeo National Finswimming Competition’ held in Jeju Island for three days starting from the 13th.

According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education on the 17th, on the first day of the competition, the mixed medley relay 400m team consisting of Seo Si-hyeong (3rd year), Choi Seong-yeon (2nd year), Son Min-seo (3rd year), and Son Hyo-seo (3rd year) took first place with a time of 3 minutes 36.48 seconds.


Additionally, in the boys’ middle school submerged 50m event, Choi Seong-yeon finished first with 19.41 seconds, and in the boys’ middle school surface 200m event, Seo Si-hyeong finished second with 1 minute 43.30 seconds.


On the second day of the competition, the mixed pair finswimming relay 400m (men) team of Kang Yun-ho (1st year), Choi Seong-yeon (2nd year), Son Min-seo (3rd year), and Son Hyo-seo (3rd year) won the silver medal with a time of 3 minutes 56.06 seconds.


In the girls’ middle school surface 100m event, Shin Jae-i (3rd year) won the bronze medal with 47.82 seconds, while Seo Si-hyeong won the gold medal in the boys’ middle school surface 100m event with 44.78 seconds.


On the last day of the competition, in the surface 50m event, girls’ middle school student Son Min-seo placed third with 21.90 seconds, Son Hyo-seo narrowly placed fourth with 23.09 seconds, and boys’ middle school student Kang Yun-ho, in his first appearance, placed fourth with a time of 23.00 seconds.


Coach Yoon Ah-hyun expressed, “I hope finswimming becomes more widely promoted so that difficulties in discovering new athletes will be resolved.”


Director Jeong Ji-yeon said, “All participating athletes achieved the feat of breaking the records of the previous competition, and I am proud and happy for all the finswimming players at Gwangju Physical Education Middle School.”


Principal Lee Jun-jae conveyed, “I am grateful to all the athletes who achieved the great accomplishment of winning the overall championship in three consecutive competitions this year.”
