The Democratic Party of Korea has begun reviewing the 'Special Prosecutor Act for Marine Corps Members' as the opposition party alone.
On the afternoon of the 17th, the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee held a meeting of the Bill Review Subcommittee 1 and discussed the bill titled 'Act on the Appointment of a Special Prosecutor for the Investigation of Obstruction and Concealment of the Death of Marine Corps Members in the Line of Duty,' which was referred to the subcommittee.
Only Democratic Party members attended the meeting that day. Among them were Kim Seung-won, the subcommittee chair and opposition party secretary of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, as well as Seo Young-kyo, Park Gyun-taek, Lee Seong-yoon, and Jeon Hyun-hee. The People Power Party did not attend any part of the meeting, having previously boycotted all standing committee meetings in protest against the Democratic Party's unilateral formation of the committee.
Chairman Kim expressed strong regret toward the People Power Party, saying, "I strongly regret the ruling party's absence from both the full Legislation and Judiciary Committee meeting and the subcommittee meeting," and added, "I hope they will attend the committee meetings as soon as possible and agree on urgent livelihood issues."

The Democratic Party members present also criticized the absent ruling party. Lee Seong-yoon requested the attendance of the Minister and Vice Minister of Justice to the subcommittee chair, and Jeon Hyun-hee stated, "If attendance is not fulfilled without a legitimate reason, we are preparing to propose a bill to establish institutional measures that allow the National Assembly to file complaints and impose penalties."
A government official, Deputy Director Bae Hyung-won of the Court Administration Office, attended the meeting. However, Deputy Minister of Justice Shim Woo-jung was absent.
In response, Chairman Kim emphasized, "This bill is very similar to the bill that President Yoon Seok-yeol requested to be reconsidered. If there are objections, the Ministry of Justice, which should represent the government in discussions, did not attend the meeting, which I consider neglect of duty. We will hold them clearly accountable."
