Topcomedia Accelerates OSMU Based on Toptoon IP... "Short-Form Drama Preview Event Held"

Two ‘short-form drama’ projects prepared by Top Media since the beginning of the year are finally unveiled. Top Media announced on the 17th that it will hold a press screening for the dramas ‘Dongari’ and ‘One Dinner, It’s You’ at the headquarters of Alomalo Humane Entertainment in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 18th of this month.

The screening will be held for domestic media and distribution officials, with major actors such as Kang Min-gil, Ahn Se-jin, Kwak Hyun-jun, Kim Myung, Shim Tae-young, and producers in attendance.

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, the drama Dongari depicts the daily lives of young men and women centered around the university theater and film club ‘P&M.’ As of December last year, the original work achieved a cumulative subscription count of 38 million views, establishing itself as one of TopToon’s representative works.

One Dinner, It’s You is also based on the webtoon of the same name serialized on TopToon, and is set against the backdrop of the new daily life of ‘Shin Su-ho,’ a college student with innate cooking skills. The original work was written by the author ‘Hwalhwasan,’ well known for ‘Convenience Store Saetbyeol.’

Short-form dramas refer to brief drama content of about one minute in length. They are gaining great popularity among the MZ generation on various social media platforms such as YouTube (Shorts), Instagram (Reels), and TikTok. In particular, they are showing rapid growth in China and other Sinophone countries.

In January, Top Media signed a drama adaptation contract for these two works with the Chinese content production company ‘Taman Cultural and Artistic Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Taman).’ This is intended to accelerate the OSMU (One Source Multi-Use) strategy utilizing the group’s webtoon intellectual property (IP) and to secure a leading position in the global short-form drama market.

A Top Media official said, “While our core business is progressing smoothly, the drama adaptation business based on the group’s webtoon IP is also proceeding without any setbacks,” adding, “Top Media will successfully complete this press screening and create meaningful results in the drama content business sector.”
