A wife of Uzbek nationality who set fire to her home suspecting her husband's infidelity was sentenced to a suspended prison term.

On the 17th, the 1st Criminal Division of the Cheonan Branch of Daejeon District Court (Presiding Judge Jeon Gyeong-ho) sentenced A (33, female), who was detained and indicted on charges of arson of a residential building, to two years in prison with a three-year suspension of the sentence.

A, of Uzbek nationality, was brought to trial for setting fire inside a one-room apartment in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam Province, where she lived with her husband, at around 4:50 a.m. on the 7th of last month.

It was revealed that A committed the crime after drinking and arguing, suspecting her husband's infidelity.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "The guilt is by no means light, considering that the fire was set in the early morning hours when most people are asleep, in a building housing about ten households, posing a very high risk of innocent casualties. Fortunately, no casualties occurred, and considering that the victim and the defendant reached a settlement, the sentence was determined."
