Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is conducting a public contest for the 'Dongmyeong Local Content Development Support Project' until the 24th of this month, in collaboration with the Gwangju Economic Promotion Win-Win Job Foundation (CEO Kim Hyun-sung) to develop local products unique to Dongmyeong-dong.
Local creators refer to entrepreneurs who combine innovative ideas based on regional resources and cultural characteristics to create business value. Dong-gu has been selected for the '2024 Excellent Commercial District Intensive Development Project' aimed at revitalizing the local economy and fostering Gwangju-style local brands to establish a representative commercial district, and is currently promoting a specialized project for Dongmyeong-dong.
Through this contest, about four teams of local creators in product and service fields such as differentiated coffee, F&B (beverages and desserts) content, goods, tourism products, and local magazines unique to Dongmyeong-dong will be selected, with up to 10 million KRW per team supported for content development and execution. In addition, support for online and offline content promotion, education, and mentoring will also be provided.
By linking with the '4th Dongmyeong-dong Coffee Walk' held in October, local creators will be encouraged to participate in Dongmyeong-dong’s representative local brand festival, providing practical assistance to participants.
Applicants must be small business owners qualified as local creators, and applications can be submitted through the websites of Dong-gu, Gwangju, and the Gwangju Economic Promotion Win-Win Job Foundation within the deadline.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "I hope local creators who develop innovative ideas based on the unique characteristics and resources of the region will become a valuable cornerstone for mutual growth with Dongmyeong-dong," adding, "I expect this opportunity to serve as a stepping stone for the overall expansion of Dongmyeong-dong’s local brand."
Meanwhile, Dongmyeong-dong has been selected as Gwangju’s first representative commercial district for fostering Gwangju-style local brands and is accelerating various projects to expand local content unique to Dongmyeong-dong, including story building, establishing a commercial district master plan, local design, and events.
