Nurse Joseonwoo Saves Man Who Lost Consciousness and Collapsed on Subway
Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital nurse Chosunwoo saved a life by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a passenger who lost consciousness and collapsed on the subway during the morning commute.
An active-duty nurse performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a passenger who suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed on the subway during the morning commute, saving a precious life, a fact that was revealed later.
Chosunwoo (32), a nurse affiliated with Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital, boarded the subway bound for Asan Sinchang at 6:56 a.m. on the 10th from Pyeongtaek Seojeong-ri station to go to work.
The usually peaceful commute turned chaotic when a passenger suddenly fell backward while the train was passing Pyeongtaek Station and heading toward Seonghwan Station.
Nurse Cho, who witnessed the scene right next to him, immediately approached the collapsed passenger to check his condition.
The passenger, a man estimated to be in his 40s or 50s, was unconscious and had no detectable pulse. Nurse Cho asked nearby passengers to call 119 emergency services and promptly began CPR. Thanks to his quick emergency response, the man fortunately regained consciousness and breathing shortly thereafter.
The stabilized man got off at Seonghwan Station and boarded a waiting 119 ambulance, which transported him to a hospital in Pyeongtaek.
Chosunwoo said, "Even if I weren't a nurse, anyone would have stepped forward in such a situation," adding, "I was able to perform CPR quickly because I have been regularly training for it."
