Bohai Brewery, a leading liquor company, has been honored with an award at the prestigious international competition, the ‘Monde Selection’.
Monde Selection, established in Belgium in 1961, is an international quality institute that evaluates products worldwide based on taste, quality, packaging, and awards outstanding products.
Bohai Brewery submitted its products using groundwater named ‘Bohai Mineral Water 101’ and ‘Bohai Mineral Water 202’ used in liquor production, alongside Bohai Soju. As a result, it won the Grand Prize in the bottled water and soft drink category and a Silver Award in the distilled spirits category.
Bohai attributes its recognition at renowned overseas award ceremonies to the ‘excellent quality of its water.’ Driven by the commitment to produce ‘good and wholesome alcohol,’ Bohai uses underground bedrock water from the 253m deep Noryeongsan Range in Jangseong, Jeollanam-do, for all its products. The groundwater Bohai uses is rich in essential minerals comparable to world-class bottled water brands. This is described as ‘high hardness,’ referring to the concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in the water. Bohai emphasizes that this characteristic enables the production of superior products.
In fact, a drinking fountain is installed at the main entrance of Bohai Brewery’s Jangseong factory, allowing anyone to drink the groundwater. It is known that local residents, who trust the stability and quality of the water, frequently visit. Since water constitutes most of the alcohol, the excellent taste of the water can be said to determine the quality of the liquor. Bohai’s pride in its ‘water’ stems from this reason.
A representative of Bohai Brewery stated, “We believe the significance of this Monde Selection award lies in the recognition of Bohai Brewery products’ excellent quality by a global quality evaluation organization,” adding, “Going forward, Bohai Brewery will continue its best efforts to present products loved nationwide and, furthermore, by customers around the world.”
