Demand for the Release of Inmates Including IS Members
In a southern Russian detention center, inmates took two prison guards hostage, but the situation ended without any hostage casualties following the deployment of Russian military special forces.
According to foreign media including Reuters and AP, the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service announced on the 16th (local time) that the two prison guards who were taken hostage at the Rostov No. 1 Detention Center in southern Russia were released unharmed.
On that day, six inmates, including a member of the Islamic State (IS), an Islamist extremist armed group, staged the hostage situation but were shot dead on the scene by special forces. It has not been disclosed how many of them were killed.
According to foreign reports, the kidnappers broke the prison cell bars, entered the prison guards' office, and took the guards hostage. They then demanded vehicles and free passage, effectively proposing their release.
