Ahn Cheol-soo: Lee Jae-myung's 'Prosecutors' Pet' Remark Is an Outrageous Statement

$8 Million North Korea Remittance Ruling Called a Historic Fabrication?
Prosecutors and Judiciary's Judgment Accused of Manipulation

On the 15th, Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for his remark that "the media eagerly distorts and manipulates information received like a pet dog of the prosecution," calling it an "unprecedented outrageous statement."

On the same day, Ahn Cheol-soo stated on his Facebook, "Regarding the court's ruling on the $8 million remittance to North Korea, Lee Jae-myung called it an unprecedented fabrication. He indiscriminately condemned the prosecution's investigation and the judiciary's judgment as manipulation." He added, "Regarding the media that reported the news, he showed a view of the press beyond the imagination of ordinary people by calling them 'the prosecution's pet dogs.'"

The day before, Lee Jae-myung, before attending a trial related to the 'violation of the Public Official Election Act' held at the Seoul Central District Court, told reporters, "It will eventually be revealed as an unprecedented fabrication case." He also criticized the media, saying, "Instead of reporting the truth, aren't they eagerly distorting and manipulating the information they receive like the prosecution's pet dogs?"

Ahn said, "Lee Jae-myung is trying to shake and tame not only the investigative agencies but also the judicial system through a special prosecutor because it is difficult for him to escape his crimes," and pointed out, "His intention is to make even the judiciary, beyond the police and prosecution, solely his loyal dog."

He also said, "The more the 'truth' is revealed, the more Lee Jae-myung seems afraid of prison," adding, "He suddenly slandered the media and did not hesitate to make the extreme remark of calling them 'the prosecution's pet dogs.' It is an outrageous statement that makes one doubt their ears." He further added, "He must have been desperate as his political life is ending with the investigation and judgment of the Lee Hwa-young trial."

Ahn stated, "The media has a mission to report for the people's right to know. The people see the world through the window called the media," and added, "Lee Jae-myung's unprecedented outrageous statement is not only an insult to the media but also an insult to the people and a denial of liberal democracy."
