Apologies and Thanks Delivered to Citizens Who Offered Their Shoulders

Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party who became a hot topic for falling asleep leaning on the shoulder of a passenger next to him on the subway, apologized and expressed gratitude to the citizen who lent his shoulder.

On the evening of the 14th, Lee said on CBS Radio's 'Park Jae-hong's One-on-One Match' regarding the viral 'subway deep sleep' issue, "If I have a schedule in Seoul the next day, I go to Sanggye-dong, and if I have a schedule in Dongtan, I go to Dongtan," adding, "People who take Line 4 and Line 7 do not find it surprising that I take the subway."

When the host asked about criticisms that it was a 'political show' or 'staged,' Lee responded, "There are always suspicious people, but if you ask the people of Sanggye-dong, they will say it is not an issue."

He stated that the photo was taken on Line 4.

Regarding the citizen who lent his shoulder, he said, "He was not there when I woke up around 10 o'clock, so I hope I did not wake him," and apologized and expressed gratitude, saying, "He seems to be a worker living around Nowon, Dobong, or Gangbuk, and I am sorry for making his already tiring commute even more exhausting." About leaning heavily to the right, he said, "This also happens to me at the station," adding, "If the person next to me moves away, I lean even more."

Recently, a photo of Lee wearing a navy suit and white dress shirt, sitting on a subway seat and sleeping, was posted on an online community and became a hot topic. He was seen leaning his head on the shoulder of the passenger sitting next to him, tightly holding his cellphone in his hand, and hugging his bag with both arms. Although the original post was soon deleted, netizens captured and shared the photo.

Lee has been known to commute using public transportation since his time as the leader of the People Power Party. He also gained attention for commuting by riding Seoul's public bicycle 'Ddareungi.'
