Busan Urban Corporation to Replace Firefighting Facilities in Aged Public Rental Apartments

Replacement of Firefighting Pipes in Gaegeum 2 and Dadae 5 Districts

Expanding Local Company Participation through Division of Construction Sections

Busan Metropolitan Corporation (BMC, President Kim Yonghak) announced on the 14th that it will completely replace the outdated fire safety facilities in the aging public rental apartments of Gaegeum 2 and Dadae 5 districts, which are managed by the corporation, to ensure the safety of residents.

The old public rental apartments managed by BMC have been in use for about 30 years since completion, raising concerns about water leakage and corrosion in the fire extinguishing pipes. To address these issues, BMC has adjusted the timing of the long-term maintenance plan for rental housing and will expedite the replacement of fire safety facilities in all districts.

In addition to replacing the piping, the project will also include the installation of backup fire pumps and the relocation (or establishment) of fire department connections and water supply hydrants to strengthen fire response and safety.

Furthermore, BMC plans to boost local economic activity by increasing the participation of local companies through the subdivision of construction lots in this project, which is valued at approximately 3 billion KRW.

Kim Yonghak, President of Busan Metropolitan Corporation, stated, "The safety of residents in rental apartments is our top priority, and we will do our utmost to ensure the smooth progress of this facility improvement project." He added, "We will also strive to expand the participation of local companies during these challenging times to contribute to the revitalization of Busan's economy."
