Busan Textile Dyeing and Processing Root Industry Specialized Complex Designated for the First Time

Nation's First in Dyeing and Finishing Industry

For the first time, a specialized cluster for textile dyeing and processing root industries has been designated in Busan.

The Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced on the 13th that the 'Busan Textile Dyeing and Processing Root Industry Specialized Cluster' has been selected as the first in the field of dyeing and processing within the root industry specialized clusters.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been designating root industry specialized clusters annually since 2013 to enhance the national manufacturing competitiveness by promoting the concentration and cooperation of root industry companies.

The root industry refers to sectors utilizing core manufacturing process technologies such as casting, mold making, plastic forming, welding, surface treatment, and heat treatment. The 'dyeing and processing' field was newly added in July 2023.

The newly designated 'Busan Fashion Color Root Industry Specialized Cluster' is located within the Seobusan Smart Valley in Saha-gu (formerly Sinpyeong Jangnim General Industrial Complex), covering an area of 251,278 square meters and housing 45 local dyeing and processing companies.

With this designation, the number of root industry specialized clusters in Busan has increased to six, following: ▲2014 Jangnim Plating Specialized Cluster (Saha-gu) ▲2017 Clean Plating Business Specialized Cluster (Gangseo-gu) ▲2019 Busan Noksan Surface Treatment Specialized Cluster (Gangseo-gu) ▲2021 Eco-friendly Vehicle Parts Convergence Specialized Cluster (Gangseo-gu) ▲2022 Busan Mold Industry Joint Innovation Specialized Cluster (Gangseo-gu).

With this new designation, the specialized cluster will be eligible to participate in government support projects for root industry specialized clusters starting next year and will receive national funding for shared facilities and joint innovation activities.

Through this designation, the city plans to enhance the competitiveness of root industry companies within the Busan Textile Dyeing and Processing Root Industry Specialized Cluster by gradually promoting ▲advancement of shared facilities (eco-friendly, digitalization) ▲high value-added dyeing and processing through industry-academia-research collaboration ▲support for market development through exhibition participation ▲establishment of convenience and welfare facilities.

In addition, the city plans to discover and promote support projects for product development, product advancement, and productivity improvement by linking the textile manufacturing stream with already designated root industry specialized clusters.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon of Busan said, "The root industry forms the foundation of the regional industry, and a strong root industry is essential for the growth of key industries and a robust local economy. Busan City will do its utmost to ensure that the Textile Dyeing and Processing Root Industry Specialized Cluster strengthens manufacturing competitiveness and supports the textile industry to drive the regional economy."
