Nonsan Mayor Baek Seong-hyun Attracts Over 1 Trillion Won in Investment Two Years After Inauguration

Nonsan City in Chungnam is poised to emerge as a defense industry hub, boosting the local economy and accelerating job creation.

On the 13th, the city announced the completion ceremony of the Korea Defense Industry Nonsan Plant and KDSolution, a defense company producing 230mm guided missiles, which was attracted to secure future growth engines and respond to population decline.

With an investment of 120 billion KRW, the Nonsan plant plans to employ up to 758 people, prioritizing residents of Nonsan, which is expected to contribute to population growth.

Previously, the city attracted the Defense Future Technology Research Center in June last year. Additionally, following the government's approval of the National Defense Industrial Complex in January this year, the city secured a 50 billion KRW investment from defense company Pungseon FNS in February, and in May, it was also designated as a special development zone for the Chungnam defense logistics industry.

In response to large-scale investments by defense companies, the city is promoting its own military logistics complex spanning 1 million pyeong in connection with the national industrial complex.

Notably, Mayor Baek Seong-hyun has achieved nearly 1 trillion KRW in investments in defense and tourism industries within two years of taking office.

Mayor Baek said, “Nonsan has now emerged from a long period of stagnation and begun its leap as a representative defense industry city of South Korea,” adding, “I express special gratitude to KDS and KDI, who have joined the future vision of the defense industry that will secure Nonsan’s future growth engines.”

Meanwhile, the city plans to make every effort to strengthen residential conditions in line with the rapidly increasing job creation.
