Police Request Arrest Warrant for Woori Bank Employee on 10 Billion Won Embezzlement Charge

On the 12th, the Gimhae Seobu Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that it had requested an arrest warrant for a Woori Bank employee accused of embezzling approximately 10 billion KRW in customer loan funds.

According to the police, a deputy-level employee in their 30s, identified as A, at the Woori Bank Gimhae branch, is suspected of embezzling loan funds by forging loan applications and deposit-related documents from early this year until recently.

The embezzled money was reportedly invested in overseas futures and cryptocurrencies, resulting in investment losses of about 6 billion KRW.

Woori Bank stated that it detected unusual signs in the loan process through its internal control system and uncovered the financial crime. A voluntarily confessed to the crime to the police on the 10th.

The police plan to investigate A regarding the possible involvement of accomplices and the exact amount of investment.
