Korea Rail Network Authority and Korail Selected as Preferred Negotiation Partners for Mongolia Subway Project Management Service

The consortium formed by the Korea Rail Network Authority and Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) together with Dohwa Engineering Co., Ltd. and Suseong Engineering Co., Ltd. has been selected as the preferred negotiation candidate for the project management service of the Ulaanbaatar Metro Line 1 (17.7 km) construction in the capital city of Mongolia.

According to the Rail Network Authority on the 12th, the consortium gained the preferred negotiation candidate status by securing an advantage in competition with engineering firms from China, Russia, Japan, and others, supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mongolia. It is also significant that the Rail Network Authority and KORAIL have entered the Mongolian local subway project for the first time in collaboration with domestic private companies.

This project involves constructing the subway section from Sonsgolon Station to Amgalan Station in Ulaanbaatar, marking the first subway construction in Mongolia.

The project period is from this month until August 2030 (6 years and 2 months).

The consortium will participate from the initial basic design stage to ensure the successful completion of the subway construction by the Ulaanbaatar City Government. Subsequently, it will be responsible for comprehensive project management throughout the project period, including contractor selection, construction supervision, testing and commissioning, and finally transferring to the operating company.

Lee Seong-hae, President of the Rail Network Authority, said, “This achievement is the result of forming one team between the railway institutions and the private sector. As the project progresses, we will actively support domestic construction companies, system providers, and rolling stock manufacturers to participate in the project.”

Han Moon-hee, President of KORAIL, said, “Being selected as the preferred negotiation candidate is meaningful as it allows us to expand the cooperative network with Mongolian railways built through exchanges, cooperation, and advisory projects. We will responsibly carry out our tasks, such as strengthening operation and maintenance capabilities, and strive to lead the globalization of K-rail through collaboration between public and private railway institutions.”
