Side Effects of Jaw and Eye Twisting When Laughing
Spent 200 Million Won on Plastic Surgery for Beautiful Appearance
A Chinese transgender woman who pursued plastic surgery in hopes of a more feminine appearance is now living with a "side effect that makes it impossible to smile." Her lower face twists into a grimace every time she smiles.
Hong Kong media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 12th (local time) the story of Meina (real name Wang Yapei, 22), a Chinese influencer and transgender woman. Meina has 2.2 million followers on popular local social networking services (SNS) such as Douyin.
Meina, a transgender woman who transitioned from male to female (MtF), said she was once teased for her overly masculine appearance. Because of this, she confessed that she gradually became dependent on plastic surgery.

On the 18th of last month, Meina posted a video on Douyin confessing, "So far, I have spent 1.3 million yuan (about 246 million KRW) on plastic surgery." The problem is that she suffered numerous side effects and complications during the surgical process. In particular, she lamented, "Now, every time I smile, my mouth twists and my eyes become uneven."
The surgery Meina underwent was jawbone reduction surgery. It was intended to shave down her developed jawbone to create a softer impression. However, it appears that this surgery caused the side effect of her lower face twisting every time she smiles.
Meanwhile, SCMP pointed out that Meina is not the only influencer suffering from side effects due to excessive plastic surgery. 'Taohua Baobao,' who spent 2.4 million yuan (about 454.6 million KRW) on plastic surgery, is also experiencing pain. Taohua Baobao is also a friend of Meina.

Taohua Baobao stated, "Excessive hyaluronic acid injections compressed the nerve in my left eye," adding, "Now I cannot control my eye, and uncontrollable spasms continue to occur, which are untreatable." He has received over 400 hyaluronic acid injections on his face, with 200 of those on his forehead alone.
Hyaluronic acid is a biosynthetic natural substance found in animal skin. It is used as an adjunct in ophthalmic surgery, joint injections, artificial tears, and is frequently used in cosmetic products due to its excellent moisturizing properties.
However, Taohua Baobao suffered various side effects such as swelling of the forehead due to excessive administration of the substance. The doctor who examined Taohua Baobao diagnosed it as "an infection caused by the interaction of excessive cosmetic substances and hyaluronic acid."
Meina repeatedly urged her fans, saying, "Plastic surgery carries risks. If it is not absolutely necessary, do not undergo it."
