A Platform for Discussing Policy Support and Private Sector Efforts

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Theme Park Association will hold the 'Theme Park Industry Development Forum' on the 12th at Lotte Hotel in Euljiro, Seoul. The forum will move beyond the existing focus on safety management to cover overall measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the theme park industry.

Overseas theme parks such as Disneyland and Universal Studios significantly contribute to regional tourism promotion through diverse content and effective marketing. They play a major role not only in economic impact but also in shaping the regional tourism image. This would have been impossible without government policy support and active efforts from the private sector.

The forum will focus on laying the foundation for this. It will share public-private activities related to the theme park industry and discuss tasks that require cooperation among the government, private sector, and academia.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will announce detailed plans including the current status and direction of policies to revitalize the theme park industry. Representatives from theme park companies such as Everland and Lotte World will introduce successful marketing cases of theme parks and the tourism industry. Participants in the discussion to derive public-private cooperation measures include Professor Lee Won-seok from Kyonggi University, Pro Park Min-hyun from Everland, Manager Shin Woo-young from Lotte World, Professor Kim Sang-hyuk from Gachon University, and Officer Na Woong-jae from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Kim Geun-ho, Director of Tourism Industry Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “In the situation where the recovery of the tourism industry after COVID-19 is important, the role of theme parks has become crucial,” adding, “We will discuss various ways to create and operate enjoyable and safe theme parks that attract both domestic and international visitors.”
