Completion of Installation of 182 Remote Inspection Devices in Streetlight Distribution Boxes in 2023, Additional 107 Sites to be Installed by October...Expectations for Reduction of Electrical Hazards and Prevention of Safety Accidents through Remote Inspection Implementation
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) is promoting a project to establish a remote inspection system capable of continuous electrical hazard monitoring for road lighting facilities to create a safer road environment.
This project aims to prevent electrical safety accidents by installing remote inspection devices inside streetlight distribution boxes to measure leakage current, overload, and other factors, as many unspecified people are exposed to the risk of electric shock during heavy rain due to the nature of road lighting facilities.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy amended the "Electrical Safety Management Act" to enhance the effectiveness of electrical safety management for road lighting facilities by changing the current face-to-face and on-site safety inspection system, conducted every 1 to 3 years, to a continuous and non-face-to-face remote inspection system using 4th generation Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
Accordingly, Seongdong-gu completed the installation of remote inspection devices in 182 streetlight distribution boxes last year and plans to install them in an additional 107 streetlight distribution boxes by the end of October this year.
Through this, Seongdong-gu aims to improve the efficiency of electrical safety management and prevent electrical safety accidents in advance, thereby creating a pleasant and safe road environment for residents.
Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "We will strive to prevent electrical hazards through the analysis of real-time collected electrical safety data and ensure the safety of residents' lives."
