A cargo plane from the American airline Atlas suffered a tire blowout while landing on Runway 1 at Incheon International Airport, leading to the closure of this runway.

According to Incheon International Airport Corporation on the 11th, the Atlas Air cargo flight 5Y8692 experienced a tire blowout while landing on Runway 1 around 7 a.m.

Earlier, the cargo plane took off from Runway 3 at around 5:28 a.m. to head to Anchorage Airport in the United States, but during this process, an object believed to be a tire fragment fell off. After takeoff, due to a hydraulic system malfunction, the plane returned and landed on Runway 1 at Incheon Airport around 7:05 a.m. However, during this process, the cargo plane's tire and aircraft lighting were damaged.

When the cargo plane stopped on Runway 1, Incheon Airport suspended runway operations to replace the tire and repair the lighting. Initially, the runway was planned to reopen around 4 p.m., but the repair took longer than expected. Incheon Airport expects to resume operations around 7:30 p.m.

With Runway 1 temporarily closed, only Runways 3 and 4 are currently available. Runway 2 had been closed earlier for resurfacing work.

Incheon Airport stated, "Due to the temporary closure of Runway 1, some departing flights were delayed by about 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours," adding, "There were no cancellations caused by this, and no casualties occurred."
