Advanced Joint Research in New Drug Development

Promotion of Customized Talent Training Programs

The Department of Life Sciences at UNIST (President Lee Yonghoon) and the New Drug Development Support Center of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Medical Innovation Foundation (Chairman Yang Jinyoung) pledged mutual cooperation for new drug development at the foundation's research building conference room on June 11.

During the signing ceremony, the two parties discussed ways to establish a collaborative system for developing new drugs to treat various diseases.


The Department of Life Sciences plans to actively recommend drug development targets to the New Drug Development Support Center and promote joint research, mutual technical support, and the establishment of a new drug development network to advance drug development.


The New Drug Development Support Center will provide extensive support, including drug screening for various disease biomarkers held by the Department of Life Sciences, safety evaluation, immunopathological mechanism analysis, drug synthesis, and efficacy verification in both small and large animal models.


The two institutions also agreed to foster future experts through active personnel exchanges, aiming to nurture customized talent for new drug development by combining pharmaceutical knowledge with life sciences. Through this, they plan to cultivate professionals and strengthen the foundation for new drug development.


Lee Changwook, Head of the Department of Life Sciences, said, "The business agreement with the New Drug Development Support Center marks an important step in turning the research achievements of the Department of Life Sciences into reality, beyond just basic research, toward the grand dream of new drug development," adding, "We hope that through continued cooperation, the Department of Life Sciences can serve as a catalyst for diseases with no available treatments."


Lee Jiyoung, Head of the New Drug Development Support Center, stated, "The excellent basic research capabilities of the UNIST Department of Life Sciences, combined with the center's new drug development expertise, have created an opportunity to accelerate new drug development. We will continue to actively promote material and personnel exchanges between the two institutions."
