Busan Port Authority to Hold Final Design Service Report Meeting on the 11th

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Junseok) held the final report meeting for the 'Busan New Port West Container Terminal Construction Phases 2 to 6 Design Service' at its headquarters on the 11th, aiming to expand facilities at the 7th pier of Busan New Port.

BPA plans to invest approximately 27 billion KRW in total construction costs to build 12 superstructure facilities, including an operations building (annex), substation, and main gate, for the West Container Terminal Phases 2 to 6 by 2026.

To this end, BPA completed the architectural planning in November 2022 and underwent a public architecture review. Through a design proposal competition in April 2023, the design company was selected, and the design service began in June.

At this final report meeting, officials from BPA, the operator (Dongwon Global Terminal), and the service provider attended to receive the final results of the implementation design from the service provider and discuss the future project schedule and related matters.

The West Container Terminal Phases 2 to 6 is a follow-up project to the 7th pier, which officially opened in April as the nation’s first fully automated terminal. It will develop an area of approximately 5.26 million square meters and add two berths.

With this expansion, the 7th pier of the new port will increase in size to a total land area of 13.53 million square meters and a total of five berths.

Lee Sangkwon, Head of Construction Division at BPA, stated, "We will promptly implement the Phases 2 to 6 project to complete the West Container Terminal project," adding, "We will also ensure the smooth progress of the Jinhae New Port development project and strive to establish Busan New Port as a world-class smart port."
