Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 13th that Madeul Sports Park, located in Sanggye-dong, has been transformed into a community sports park that embraces all social groups.

Madeul Sports Park, covering an area of 67,109㎡ in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, has served as a representative cultural and sports park for residents, featuring various outdoor sports facilities such as a soccer field, tennis courts, and badminton courts centered around Nowon Madeul Stadium.

However, the district recognized issues with aging facilities due to the long period since its establishment and a lack of distinctive features at Madeul Sports Park. Consequently, the Madeul Sports Park regeneration project began in July last year and was completed in April this year.

First, as one of the residents' requests during the Madeul regeneration project briefing, a 780m elastic pavement circular walking trail was created. This was to ensure that vulnerable pedestrians such as infants, pregnant women, and people with disabilities can also enjoy the park together.

Additionally, the highly frequented badminton courts were resurfaced with artificial turf, and a basketball court was newly constructed where the ground fountain used to be. Two outdoor exercise spaces were also created, with equipment concentrated and positioned for easy access by seniors. In particular, five exercise machines for people with disabilities were newly installed to enhance their convenience.

The pet family rest area, where pets can join, was also renovated. The pet family rest area was relocated to flat ground, separating spaces for small and medium-sized dogs from those for large dogs, providing a comfortable space for both pets and their owners.

Along with maintenance of playground facilities and installation of sand covers, the integrated playground ‘Green Forest Playground,’ where children with and without disabilities can play together, was refurbished. A new ‘Forest Playground’ with a zip line was also created, expanding spaces where children can run and play.

Meanwhile, Nowon-gu plans to develop Nohae Park, scheduled for completion this year, into a ‘youth-specialized sports space.’ In addition to creating a circular walking trail and resting areas and reinforcing children’s playground facilities, the park will feature ▲X-Games area (extreme sports such as skateboarding) ▲Street workout area (physical activities involving various bars for advanced poses) ▲futsal field ▲basketball court, among others.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok stated, “The goal of Nowon-gu’s community sports is to create spaces that everyone can enjoy without exclusion.” He added, “We will continue to devote great effort to designing spaces and facilities so that everyone?from children to seniors, and people with and without disabilities?can comfortably rest and engage in various physical activities.”
