One Step Toward Saving the Earth

Geochang County, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 10th that it held a promotional event in celebration of the 29th Environment Day at the cultural rest area in front of the county office.

This event, held in collaboration with environmental organizations, featured activities such as ▲promoting awareness of climate change and carbon neutrality ▲an ecological photo exhibition of Geochang ▲a waste resource exchange event ▲a zero-waste shop experience ▲the "Waking Up Sleeping Reusables" campaign ▲and registration for the carbon-neutral points program. These activities were designed to help residents recognize the seriousness of climate change and experience practical ways to take action in their daily lives.

In particular, the "Waking Up Sleeping Reusables" campaign, where participants could exchange unused tumblers and eco-bags from home for begonia flowerpots provided by Changpowon, helped raise awareness about carbon sinks. The 46 tumblers and 27 eco-bags collected will be cleaned and disinfected by the environmental department for future reuse.

During lunchtime, a campaign was held inside the county office building to reduce the use of disposable products as part of efforts to cut down on single-use items in public institutions. The campaign banned the use of plastic cups, straws, and other disposables that are commonly used during lunchtime inside the building, and encouraged voluntary returns to promote participation among county office staff in reducing single-use items.

Kim Seongnam, head of the Environmental Department, said, "Through this event, I hope residents will recognize the seriousness of the climate crisis and actively participate in a carbon-neutral lifestyle through small actions in their daily lives," adding, "I also hope this event will serve as an opportunity to protect Geochang's pristine environment."
