Will Boseong Tea Captivate the World's Palate?

As the organic green tea from Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do gains great popularity both domestically and internationally, an additional 3.5 tons of Boseong tea will be exported this year, adding to the total 10 tons exported to France since 2022.

This export was made possible through an export contract signed at the 2022 SIAL Exhibition in Paris, France, between Boseong-gun, Bohyang Dawon Co., Ltd. (CEO Choi Young-gi), and the French tea specialist company ‘O’.

The exported product consists of approximately 3.5 tons of green tea organically cultivated in Boseong-gun. It is produced in strict accordance with international organic standards through thorough quality control and inspection by the Boseong Tea Producers Cooperative (Chairman Park Hae-jong).

About 20 people, including Kim Cheol-woo, Governor of Boseong-gun, Moon Geum-ju, local district member of the National Assembly, Im Yong-min, Chairman of the Boseong County Council, Shin Hyun-gon, International Cooperation Officer of Jeollanam-do, Park Hae-jong, Chairman of the Boseong Tea Producers Cooperative, and Choi Young-gi, CEO of Bohyang Dawon Co., Ltd., attended the export loading ceremony held on the 7th.

The shipment is scheduled to take place in June, and Boseong tea will be distributed and sold at tea specialty chains, cafes, and department stores throughout France.

Based on the export achievements to France over the past three years since 2022, the county plans to fully promote export activation by expanding export target countries through local market research, export consultations, and product diversification.

Kim Cheol-woo, Governor of Boseong-gun, said, “The excellent quality of Boseong green tea is being recognized, and exports to Europe are steadily increasing,” adding, “We will actively support efforts to widely promote the excellent quality and high competitiveness of Boseong tea worldwide, befitting its reputation as the ‘Green Tea Capital of Korea.’”

Meanwhile, Bohyang Dawon Co., Ltd. is operated and managed by agricultural technology master Choi Young-gi, who has farmed and produced tea in Boseong-eup for generations. The company has steadily exported tea to more than ten countries. In addition to green tea, it continuously promotes and sells Korean teas with rich culture and tradition, such as Tteumcha and Jeoncha.
