Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 10th that it will officially begin the construction of the tentatively named 'Gyeongbuk Education Museum' to systematically manage valuable educational materials and relics, and to widely promote the identity and excellence of Gyeongbuk education.
The tentatively named Gyeongbuk Education Museum aims to overcome the limitations of online viewing at the 'Gyeongbuk Education Cyber Museum,' which has accumulated 670,000 visitors, and to contribute to the development of local educational culture by providing a space where the history and progress of Gyeongbuk education can be viewed at a glance.
The location of the museum has been selected as the site within the Gyeongbuk Office of Education Research Institute, considering both the efficient management of over 13,000 educational materials and relics currently held by the institute and accessibility for visitors.
With a total project cost of 18 billion KRW, the museum will be a four-story building (site area 33,794㎡, total floor area 2,950㎡) and is scheduled to open in the first half of 2026. The winning entry for the architectural design competition has been selected, and the basic and detailed designs are expected to be completed in the second half of 2024.
The tentatively named Gyeongbuk Education Museum is conducting research services on exhibition and experiential content for each space in the museum in order to prepare interactive exhibitions and various educational programs utilizing advanced technology.
In addition, the museum will include the Gyeongbuk Education Promotion Hall, where visitors can explore the footsteps and achievements of Gyeongbuk education; a special exhibition hall covering education-related issues by theme or period; a permanent exhibition hall offering an overview of Gyeongbuk education from the Silla era to the present; and a future classroom experience center utilizing the latest technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), AR (augmented reality), and VR (virtual reality), all designed to make the history of Gyeongbuk education easy and enjoyable for visitors to understand.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, said, "The construction of the tentatively named Gyeongbuk Education Museum will go beyond simply displaying relics of the past. It will become a place where our students can experience educational history, develop historical awareness, and grow as the protagonists of the future generation by demonstrating creativity and imagination."
