Hanwha Ocean announced on the 10th that it has launched the large WTIV ordered from the Danish shipping company Cadeler in 2021. The vessel measures 148m in length and 56m in width, capable of carrying five 15MW-class large offshore wind turbines at once.
Hanwha Ocean plans to proactively respond to the rapidly increasing demand for large offshore wind turbine installation vessels by successfully delivering the WTIV launched this time. So far, it has delivered two WTIVs and is currently constructing two more large WTIVs, the largest number of such vessels domestically.
Furthermore, to expand its business beyond WTIV construction to the entire marine energy value chain, Hanwha Ocean plans to provide total offshore wind services, including wind power project development as well as manufacturing, transportation, installation, and maintenance of substructures and offshore substations. Recently, it announced the acquisition of Hanwha Corporation’s offshore wind and plant businesses to enhance competitiveness and efficiency in related sectors.
Hanwha Ocean’s Marine Business Division is pursuing a transformation into an EPCIO (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Operation) solution provider for various floating offshore facilities such as Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSO) and Floating Liquefied Natural Gas units (FLNG), as well as marine renewable energy-related projects. Recently, through acquiring shares in Dynamac, a Singapore-based specialist manufacturer of FPSO topsides, it has positioned itself to effectively respond to the growing global demand for floating offshore plants.
A Hanwha Ocean official stated, "Through the launch of this large offshore wind installation vessel, Hanwha Ocean has once again demonstrated its top-tier technological capabilities in the eco-friendly marine business sector," adding, "We will firmly establish our position as the number one in the WTIV market by successfully delivering the large WTIV launched this time."
