Proactive Measures in Infrastructure, Work Environment, Hygiene, Parking, Road, and Sewage Management with 15 Strategic Tasks Across 4 Areas to Foster Merchant-Resident Coexistence
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will operate the "Majang Livestock Market Environmental Improvement Task Force (TF)" to proactively address the odor issues at Majang Livestock Market.
The odors caused by livestock products, oils, and by-products, which become especially severe in hot weather, have long been a chronic nuisance for residents near Majang Livestock Market.
Accordingly, Seongdong-gu formed the "Majang Livestock Market Environmental Improvement Task Force (TF)" led by the Deputy Mayor to fundamentally resolve the odor problems at Majang Livestock Market.
Comprising 11 teams from 6 departments including the Local Economy Division, the TF will focus on four key areas to improve the working environment around Majang Livestock Market: ▲ institutional improvements such as mandatory implementation of HACCP for meat packaging and processing businesses ▲ facility infrastructure and work environment improvements including comprehensive maintenance of large cranes along the Gyeongui and Jungang railway lines and activation of the Clean Delivery Center ▲ hygiene and parking management such as street cleaning around the market, crackdowns on illegal parking of large cranes, unauthorized discharge of animal residues, and hygiene inspections of livestock products ▲ road and sewage management including road repairs and cleaning of sewage pipes around the market, with 15 strategic tasks prioritized.
The "Majang Livestock Market Environmental Improvement TF" is scheduled to operate until October, aiming to minimize inconvenience for visitors and residents and to foster a market environment where residents and merchants coexist harmoniously through mutual sharing and cooperation.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "We are continuously striving to reduce odors and create a pleasant environment at Majang Livestock Market," and added, "We hope that market merchants will actively participate in environmental improvements for a 'Majang Livestock Market where merchants and residents coexist,' so they can sell quality products in a more hygienic environment."
