Prosecutors Arrest and Indict Former Official in ‘Anmyeondo Solar Power Corruption’ Case Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office building.

On the 7th, the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office National Financial Crime Joint Investigation Team (Chief Lee Il-gyu) announced that Mr. A, a former public official of Taean-gun, Chungnam, was arrested and indicted on charges including bribery.

Mr. A is accused of overseeing the solar power project in Taean-gun during his tenure as a public official and, in return for providing various conveniences to Mr. B, securing a promise to be employed at Mr. B's company after retirement with an annual salary of 55 million KRW, along with a vehicle and corporate credit card. Additionally, Mr. A requested Mr. B to allow his daughter, who passed the bar exam, to undergo training at a law firm.

It was confirmed that despite opposition from the then Taean-gun mayor and responsible officials citing environmental damage as a reason against the solar power project, Mr. A arranged for Mr. B to meet the mayor and exerted influence on junior officials to interpret laws favorably for Mr. B.

A prosecution official stated, “We will continue to conduct strict investigations regarding corruption related to the Taean-gun solar power project.”
