Honoring Patriotic Martyrs and Fallen Heroes
On the morning of June 6 at 10 a.m., the Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the 69th Memorial Day Ceremony at the Masan Chungheon Tower to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes.
Approximately 800 people attended the ceremony, including Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, members of the National Assembly, heads of veterans' organizations, provincial and city council members, heads of institutions and organizations, and bereaved families.
The Memorial Day Ceremony was held under the slogan "Living Patriotism in Everyday Life, Patriotism for All." At 10 a.m., a nationwide siren signaled a one-minute silent tribute to remember and thank the sacrifices and contributions of national merit recipients. The ceremony continued with floral tributes and incense offerings to the fallen heroes, a memorial address, a recitation of a commemorative poem, and the singing of the Memorial Day Song.
To accommodate bereaved families and visitors, the city operated six taxis to transport people to the Masan Chungheon Tower located within Sanho Park, and deployed safety personnel throughout the area.
Mayor Hong stated, "We will deeply engrave in our hearts the noble sacrifices and dedication of our forebears who gave everything for the independence of our nation, for the freedom and peace of this land, and for its prosperity. We will promote various patriotic policies to honor their noble patriotism, ensuring that patriotism, which forms the foundation of love for our country, becomes a culture of respect and gratitude in our daily lives."
