Geochang County Accepts Applications for 2024 Outstanding Village Project to Promote Return-to-Farming and Rural Migration

Gyeongnam's Only Outstanding Return-to-Farming and Rural Migration Village Project Launched
Bringing New Vitality to Rural Areas

Geochang County in Gyeongnam Province is accepting applications for the "2024 Outstanding Villages for Promoting Return to Farming and Rural Migration Project" until the 21st, aiming to foster stable settlement by building bonds between newcomers and local residents.

The Outstanding Villages for Return to Farming and Rural Migration Project is a self-initiated program by Geochang County since last year, uniquely implemented in Gyeongnam Province, to inject new vitality into rural areas facing population decline and the risk of regional extinction. It provides local residents with motivation and opportunities to actively attract and participate with newcomers.

Administrative villages in Geochang County are eligible to apply. The county plans to select three outstanding villages by evaluating the number of newcomers from July 2023 to June 2024 and the performance of activation programs during this period.

The selected villages will each receive 20 million KRW in funding for village environment improvement projects to attract newcomers.

County Governor Koo Inmo stated, "Through the implementation of the Outstanding Villages for Return to Farming and Rural Migration Project, we expect to foster a sense of community and strengthen the competitiveness of rural areas struggling with aging and low birth rates. The interest and efforts of the villages are the foundation for revitalizing rural migration, so we ask for your active participation."

Meanwhile, in 2023, Daeya Village in Namha-myeon, Yongdangso Village in Gajo-myeon, and Gwajeong Village in Sinwon-myeon were selected as outstanding villages, contributing to the promotion and activation of Geochang County's rural migration programs.
