Yonsei University ranked 56th in the '2025 QS World University Rankings' and secured the top position among private universities in Asia for the third consecutive year. This marks a 20-place jump from last year's 76th position and is the first time in the university's history that it has entered the top 50 worldwide.
The QS World University Rankings are scored based on nine indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, and international research network. This year, 5,663 universities from 106 countries worldwide participated, with rankings assigned to 1,503 universities.
Yonsei University improved its International Research Network (IRN) score by 53.7 points compared to the previous year. In the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sector, the score increased by 50.8 points, driving the overall ranking improvement.
Yonsei University stated, "This result was achieved by integrating the performance of the Sinchon and Future Campuses," and added, "It can be evaluated that the comprehensive efforts of the two campuses are bearing fruit."
Yonsei University has also actively engaged in global contribution activities. Utilizing the university's intellectual and human resources, it has contributed to solving pressing social issues worldwide by hosting the annual 'Global Education for Sustainable Development Forum (GEEF)' to fulfill the role of higher education institutions in achieving sustainable development goals.
This year, in-depth discussions were held on various topics such as mental health issues among Korean youth, the 'Economics of Care' for the sustainability of Korean society, and sustainable development goals in the African region.
Additionally, Yonsei University operates the 'Yonsei Eulji Fellowship' system to enhance international research capabilities, secure top-tier researchers, and maintain the research competitiveness of emerging scholars.
Yoon Dong-seop, President of Yonsei University, expressed, "We will strengthen international exchange and cooperation to elevate our academic status globally and nurture leaders who share positive influence through groundbreaking challenges," adding, "We aim to secure sustainable global research competitiveness through innovative interdisciplinary convergence research."
